Pointing to the need of stronger Election Commission in Bangladesh, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said, 'The Election Commission will be formed with representatives based on unity of all parties for the next general election in the country.'
She came up with the proposal while addressing a press conference held at a Dhaka hotel, this afternoon.
'Every registered political party in Bangladesh must approve of the next commission,' she told the press briefing.
Earlier the BNP chief's proposal was finalised in a meeting of the party's National Standing Committee, according to BNP insiders.
The BNP's proposal came as the term of the current EC, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, will end in February next year.
'No alternative to formulate a stronger and neutral Election Commission (EC) to conduct a fair and credible national election,' she added.
Khaleda Zia, however, in the briefing, on Friday, placed a 13-point proposal over the formation of a stronger and neutral Election Commission to arrange the next national polls.
'It also needs to sit with all major political parties here in the country to listen to their issues and suggestion and to discuss with them, in this regard, before formation of the commission and to place the recommendations to the President,' The BNP chief opined
