National Film Award 2014 announced

Director Murad Parvez’s government grant winning film Brihannala was declared the best film of 2014 on Thursday. The film, starring Ferdaus Ahmed and Sohana Saba in lead roles, addresses religion and its impact on society through the story of an interfaith relationship. For Brihannala, Murad also got awards in the best story writer and best dialogue writer categories. Meanwhile, Zahidur Rahim Anjan got the best director award for his directorial work in the liberation war based film Meghamallar. Ferdaus Ahmed got the best actor award for his role in Ek Cup Cha while the best actress award was shared between Moushumi (for her role in Tarkanta) and Bidya Sinha Mim (for her role in Jonakir Alo). The information ministry announced the names of the winners of National Film Award 2014 in 26 categories by issuing a gazette on Thursday. The prime minister will hand over the awards to the winners, said ministry officials, adding the date of the awards ceremony will be announced soon. Ashraf Shishir’s directorial debut Gariwala got the best film award in the short film category while seasoned actors Syed Hasan Imam and Rani Sarkar were chosen for lifetime achievement awards for their contributions to the film industry, Dr Ezaz Islam got the national film award in the best supporting actor category while Chitralekha Guho got the award in the best supporting actress category. Meanwhile, Tareq Anam Khan got the best villain award for his role in Desh the Leader while actor Misha Sawdagor, who mostly plays villain in his films, was named the best comedian for his role in Alpa Alpa Premer Galpa. In the singing categories, rock star James got the best male singer award while noted singers Runa Laila and Momtaz Begum shared the best female singer award between them. Dr Sayeem Rana, Belal Khan and Masud Pathik respectively became the best music composer, best music director and best lyricist. < >
